Dana M. Marston
Dana M. Marston is a leading member of the Capitol Management Initiatives team, serving as Director of Strategic Initiatives. After over nine years with Anheuser–Busch Companies, Dana brings an exceptional understanding of the intersection between business and government to the firm and its clients.
Her proven experience in operations, logistics, project management, and relationship development have been honed in positions of increasing leadership and responsibility. Employing these valuable skills, Dana leads CMI’s grasstops and grassroots teams, focusing on the firm’s non–profit and foundation clients.
At Anheuser–Busch, Dana played a key role in the transformation and growth of the company’s government affairs operation before, during and after its 2008 merger with InBev. With an eye for detail, efficiency and effectiveness, she provided an invaluable link between departmental staff spread across the U.S., maintaining open lines of communication and awareness of initiatives. Throughout her tenure with the company, she was successful in coordinating with all levels of management as well as corporate partners, such as lobbying groups, charitable organizations and government entities.
Within Anheuser–Busch, Dana rapidly rose from a specialist secretary, where she supported Anheuser–Busch’s outreach and lobbying efforts, to the position of Manager of Anheuser–Busch’s Government Affairs department. In this post, Dana served as chief of staff for the Vice President of Government Affairs and manager of the Company’s influential Washington, D.C. office. In this capacity, she managed a $4.8 million budget while coordinating both federal and internal reporting of government, lobbying and charitable activities, ensuring compliance at all levels.
Dana was the lead in coordinating Anheuser–Busch’s 2004 and 2008 Presidential campaign engagements. In this, she was responsible for all logistics, legal requirements, corporate and political compliance related to the Company’s sponsorship and outreach during each of the Democrat and Republican National Party Conventions, the Presidential Debates, and the Presidential Inauguration.
Previously, Dana worked as a legal assistant at Greenblum and Bernstein P.L.C., a Reston, Virginia firm specializing in intellectual property law, and as an executive assistant to the CEO of the American Red Cross of Greater Idaho.
A native of Homedale, Idaho, Dana received her Bachelor of Science (summa cum laude) from the University of Idaho in visual communication with an emphasis in business, where she was named as one of the University’s top 40 graduating seniors. She went on to earn her Masters in Business Administration (summa cum laude) from The George Washington University, focusing her studies in the areas of management, operations, and corporate social responsibility.
In addition to her active work schedule, since 2005 Dana has been an enthusiastic participant and team leader in the two–day, 39.3 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. A resident of Washington, D.C., she enjoys volunteering with Greater DC Cares, sharing her time and smile in local food pantries. She is also a frequent runner, rain or shine.
