Katherine F. Baker
Katherine F. Baker is a junior at the University of Notre Dame studying Marketing and Public Policy, with concentrations in International Relations and International Business. When she is not discussing current events or giving campus tours to prospective students, Katie can be found utilizing her planning, organizational, and communications skills in her service to Notre Dame’s Student Government.
As a sophomore, Katie was selected to serve as the Social Chairman of her class, wherein she planned and hosted numerous networking events for hundreds of her classmates. Katie is also involved in the policy side of Student Government, utilizing her critical eye and marketing mindset to serve as Chief Communications Officer for the Student Body President’s election campaign during her sophomore year. In this campaign, Katie’s organizational and creative skills ensured the integrity of all campaign materials and their adherence to one streamlined message of "Hope in Action"–the hope for a student government that successfully addresses both issues of convenience in everyday student life and issues of consequence, encouraging Notre Dame students to think globally on issues of the day.
Now a junior, Katie serves as Student Body Secretary for the administration for which she helped earn 67% of the student vote. This position not only allows Katie to ensure that all Student Government initiatives adhere to the campaign message that resonated so strongly with the Notre Dame student body, but also gives her the opportunity to pursue solutions to the issues about which she is most passionate – specifically, working with the Office of Student Affairs and Notre Dame’s Security Police to improve safety for students both on and off campus.
An avid multi–tasker, Katie just finished managing the election campaign of the current Student Body Vice President as he pursued–and won–the Student Body Presidency for the 2012–2013 school year. Drawing on her marketing and communications skills, Katie spent months collaborating with the candidate to create a campaign entitled "Advancing the Vision." Her role ranged from brainstorming campaign platform ideas to formulating a thirty–four page document outlining the team’s continued vision for Notre Dame. Katie will continue to utilize her organizational abilities and management skills as she serves as Chief of Staff for the new Student Government administration during her senior year.
This summer, Katie will build upon her experience in marketing and brand management as a Business Analyst intern with General Mills in Minneapolis, MN. Katie hopes to work as a brand manager for a public relations firm after graduating from Notre Dame in May 2013.
A die–hard Notre Dame football fan since birth and a California native, Katie loves playing beach volleyball with friends (South Bend weather permitting, of course.)
